Back to the Basics with Financial Education
PUBLISHED OCTOBER 14, 2015
The partnership between East West Bank and Operation HOPE continues to make strides in shaping the financial future of our children today. Through programs that connect young students with financial professionals, this partnership has found a way to make financial education fun by going back to the basics.
In October, a group of dedicated EWB teacher-volunteers provided a financial literacy program using the “Banking On Our Future” curriculum to the students of Betsy Ross Elementary School in Anaheim, CA. Over 300 students from 5th and 6th grade classes were taught the basic fundamentals of budgeting, followed by a second session which focused on managing a checking and savings account. The program is designed for students and teacher-volunteers to interact and engage in a fun learning environment through activities and workbooks, as well as discussing the topic of wants vs. needs.
